Haliaeetus leucocephalus
Location: Canada, Alaska, United States, Northern Mexico
Diet: Mainly fish, but are opportunistic carnivores
Predators: None, all deaths of adult bald eagles are caused by human interaction.
Tracking: Scientists track the bald eagle as this animal had been on the endangered species list and has only recently been moved to threatened. This rebound in population numbers is due to the heavy restrictions of the use of DDT (which weakens the egg shells of the bald eagle and was the primary reason for its endangered status), as well as due to reintroduction programs. The monitoring of this species is continual in order to ensure an increase in the population levels, track movement patters, as well as to monitor mortality rates.
