Sphyrna lewini Location: Worldwide in warm temperate and tropical waters Diet: Fish, Squid, Octopus Predators: None Tracking: Scientists track this shark as it is now on the endangered species list, and in the Atlantic Ocean population levels have declined by over 95%. This is due to over-fishing and the growing demand for shark fins, namely for making shark fin soup. This tracking enables scientists to monitor the movements of the animal and the mortality rates. As of right now shark finning is still legal, but researchers are calling for a ban on this practice, which would help to hopefully improve the population numbers.
