Polar orbiting is basically where the satellites move around the planet in a north-south movement, as opposed to the more common east-west movement. This is beneficial to the Argos satellite as the earth moves in an east-west movement, meaning that while the satellite moves in the north-south direction the earth is moving perpendicular to the satellite. This enables the polar satellites to scan the entire surface of the Earth.
